Introduction
Craving delicious steamed dumplings but don't have a steamer? No problem! In this post, I'll show you how to cook frozen dumplings using two simple methods that don't require any special equipment. Who says you need fancy equipment to create something delicious? Not me! With a couple of household items, you can achieve the same fluffy texture that makes dumplings so irresistible.
Here's a bonus - dumplings can be a healthy option too. Using frozen dumplings makes this recipe incredibly convenient. The steaming method preserves the nutrients in the ingredients, making this a healthier option compared to frying. Plus, the homemade dipping sauce adds a burst of flavor without any artificial additives.
Recipe: Steamed Dumplings Without a Steamer
Ingredients (Serve 1)
- 8 premade frozen dumplings
For the sauce:
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon rice syrup or oligo syrup
- Diced spring onion
Instructions
1. Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together the water, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, rice syrup (or oligo syrup), and diced spring onion. Set aside.
2. Method 1 - Two Dishes:
- Fill a large pot with about 2 inches (5 cm) of water.
- Place a heatproof dish or plate in the pot, and put the dumplings on another dish or plate on top of the first one, making sure they don't touch the water.
- Cover the pot with a lid and bring the water to a boil. Steam the dumpling for about 10-12 minutes, or until fully cooked.
3. Method 2 - Foil Balls:
- Fill a large pot with about 2 inches (5 cm) of water.
- Create three or four medium-sized balls of aluminum foil and place them in the pot.
- Place a heatproof dish or plate on top of the foil balls, ensuring it stays above the water level.
- Arrange the dumplings on the plate, cover the pot with a lid, and bring the water to a boil. Steam the dumplings for about 10-12 minutes, or until fully cooked.
4. Serve: Serve the steamed dumplings hot with the prepared dipping sauce.
Tips for Making Steamed Dumplings
- Substitutes: If you don't have rice syrup or oligo syrup, you can use honey or maple syrup for the dipping sauce.
- Vegetarian Option: Use vegetable dumplings if you prefer a vegetarian option.
- Extra Flavor: Add a few drops of sesame oil to the dipping sauce for an extra nutty flavor.
